The Spring Bay Boat Club was started in 1975 by a small number of local and weekender off-the-beach dinghy sailors. Yacht racing was held mainly from One Tree Point off Barton Avenue in Triabunna on the shore of Spring Bay. This area is on the beautiful east coast of Tasmania. Today, the Club has a permanent site situated in the harbour precinct at Esplanade East in Triabunna with a clubhouse, marina and hardstand facility. The Club currently has about 180 nominal members, plus family members and is affiliated with Australian Sailing Ltd. (Previously known as Yachting Australia.)
We conduct regular sailing races for our small fleet of yachts as well as other events for the large number of power boats in our membership. The social side is well catered for with barbecues and other non-boating events. Cruising is covered by regular summer excursions to our beautiful coastal areas including Maria and Schouten Islands, Freycinet Peninsula and the internationally famous Wineglass Bay.
Recently, the Triabunna District School and the Club joined forces to initiate a sail training program for kids. A fleet of six Pacer sailing dinghies have been purchased from Yachting Tasmania for the project. This was made possible by a grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund and school resources. The Club supports the school outdoor education personnel with rescue and training assistance.
